Alternergy bags offshore wind project

Alternergy Holdings Corp., through its subsidiary Pililla AVPC Corp., secured the exclusive rights to explore, develop and utilize wind resources in the Calavite Passage in Northern Mindoro.

The wind energy service contract approved by the Department of Energy (DOE) covers about 78,000 hectares between northwest Mindoro and Lubang Island for an offshore wind power project.

The project is situated within one of the six zones identified by the World Bank with high offshore wind potential.

“… offshore wind will play very crucial role in the Philippines energy supply security in the medium term and a key priority of the current administration,” said Vince Perez, Alternergy chairman, in a statement.

The company will conduct technical studies and resource assessments on Calavite passage offshore wind project which forms part of Alternergy’s goal of building 1,245 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity in the next five years.
