Listed Alternergy Holdings Corp. on Monday said it has appointed Maria Victoria Españo, former chairperson of Punongbayan and Araullo Grant Thornton, as adviser to the board of the company.
Españo is a certified public accountant, a certified management accountant, a certified GRI professional and has been recognized with multiple awards.
“Marivic Españo has a solid track record on taxation and audit, with her stellar career at P&A Grant Thornton since 1997, including 12 years as chairperson until her retirement in June 2023. We value her advice on best practices in corporate governance, as part of our aspiration to be an exemplary listed company on the Philippine Stock Exchange,” Alternergy Chairman Vince Perez said.
“We look forward to working closely with Marivic Españo and learning from her experience. We believe her background would be an excellent complement to the expertise of Alternergy’s non-executive board in banking, government, law and sustainable finance.”
The independent directors of Alternergy are Maria Teresa Marcial, CEO of BPI Wealth, and former Trade Secretary Gregory Domingo.
Her appointment follows the earlier appointment of former Securities and Exchange Commission commissioner Ephyro Amatong as adviser to the board of Alternergy.
“I was most interested in being able to contribute my experience to a growing company like Alternergy in a very relevant industry. As a renewable power pioneer, Alternergy has strong prospects for growth. I look forward to working with the Alternergy board,” Españo said.
Españo first joined P&A Grant Thornton in 1997 and was admitted to the partnership in 1999. She was appointed COO in 2009 and became Chair and CEO in 2011 until her retirement in June 2023.
Before joining P&A Grant Thornton, she worked with the Department of Finance, the Philippine Senate, and Atlantic, Gulf & Pacific.
She completed her master’s degree in accountancy at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines and had attended various executive programs at the Asian Institute of Management, Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania, and the Saïd School of Business, Oxford University.
She obtained her undergraduate degree in Mathematics for Teachers from the Philippine Normal University under a national government scholarship.
