Renewable power pioneer Alternergy Holdings Corporation (ALTER) announced it has commenced wind resource assessment for a potential wind power project in Albay Province, Bicol region with the deployment of a Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) system.
“Our LiDAR system has started collecting wind measurement that will be instrumental in determining feasibility of the project. We are excited to explore the wind power potential of Albay Province and support the province’s sustainability goals,” said Knud Hedeager, president of Alternergy Wind Holdings Corporation.
The wind resource assessment is one of the activities approved by the Department of Energy in the issuance earlier this year of the Certificate of Authority (COA) for Alternergy’s Albay Wind Power Projects. Under the COA, Alternergy has three (3) years to complete the pre-feasibility studies and permitting activities from government agencies, and if the project site is proven commercially viable, the COA will be converted into a 25-year Wind Energy Service Contract.
Mr. Hedeager also noted that the LiDAR system is powered by a solar installation in line with Alternergy’s commitment to sustainable practices. "Our team is committed to ensuring that the Albay Wind Power Projects are executed with the utmost care for the environment and the local community."
A meteorological mast (met mast) will also be installed in the fourth quarter of this year in time for the upcoming wind season. “The installation of the met mast will reinforce the ongoing wind assessment by our LiDAR system and will provide additional data to assist in our resource analysis,” Mr. Hedeager said.
The Albay Wind Power Projects 1 and 3 form part of Alternergy’s portfolio of new projects to support ALTER’s Road to 1 GW by 2030.
