Alternergy reaches major milestone with Tanay Wind Project energization

• Successful energization of massive 500 kV Tanay substation and transmission facilities, Alternergy’s largest substation built to date

Alternergy Holdings Corporation (“PSE: ALTER”), a Philippine pioneer in renewable power development, has successfully energized the transmission infrastructure of its 128 MW (megawatt) Tanay Wind Project, a key commissioning milestone before the facility begins delivering clean power to the Luzon grid. 

The milestone covers the successful energization of the wind project’s massive 500 kV (kilovolt) substation and 500 kV transmission facilities—the critical infrastructure that connects the wind farm to the national transmission network and enables the safe and reliable delivery of electricity to the grid. This is the largest substation built to date by Alternergy. 

Energization is a critical commissioning milestone as it confirms the readiness of the project’s electrical systems for integrated testing and subsequent commercial operations. It also signals the start of pre-commissioning activities that would pave the way for revenue generation once the project begins operating commercially. 

“The successful energization of the Tanay Wind Project brings us another step closer to delivering clean reliable energy to Filipino consumers,” said Gerry Magbanua, president of Alternergy. “This is also particularly significant because it represents the first wind project energized under the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Auction Program II (GEAP II), strengthening the country’s renewable energy infrastructure and supports the Philippines’ transition toward a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.”

The Tanay Wind Project features the largest 8MW wind turbines ever installed in Southeast Asia outside of China, underscoring Alternergy’s commitment to deploying cutting-edge renewable energy technologies that maximize the country’s wind resources. 

Once fully operational, the 128 MW facility is expected to generate approximately 283.5 GWh of renewable electricity annually, enough to power around 118,125 households while avoiding an estimated 197,780 metric tonnes of carbon emissions each year. 

The successful energization of the Tanay Wind Project marks another significant step toward Alternergy’s goal of developing 500 MW of additional renewable energy capacity in 2026 while supporting the Philippine government’s objective of increasing the share of renewable energy in the country’s power generation mix.
