Alternergy’s Tanay wind delivers first power to the Luzon grid

Alternergy’s 128 MW Tanay Wind Project began delivering its first power to the Luzon grid, marking a major milestone toward full commercial operations.
Achieved exactly three years after winning the project under DOE’s GEAP II, Tanay is the first among GEAP II-awarded wind projects to generate electricity.
Through the NGCP’s transmission network, electricity generated by the Tanay Wind Project can now be transmitted across Luzon.
Once fully operational, the project will power household, cut carbon emissions, and continue creating opportunities and shared benefits for the host communities.
Alternergy Holdings Corporation (“PSE: ALTER”), a Philippine pioneer in renewable power development, has reached another milestone with the first generation of electricity from its 128 MW Tanay Wind Project. Exactly three years after securing the project under the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Auction Program II (GEAP II) held in July 2023, Alternergy is the first among all GEAP II-awarded wind projects to deliver power to the grid, demonstrating the company’s ability to deliver complex energy projects from award to execution.
For the first time, electricity from the project’s wind turbines has begun transmitting to the Luzon grid through its massive newly energized substation, covering 6 hectares, connected to the 500 kV transmission backbone of National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
The Tanay Wind Project, Alternergy’s largest wind development in Luzon to date, is set to become a significant source of clean, reliable energy, contributing to the country’s energy security and renewable energy targets.

This achievement follows the energization of the project’s grid interconnection facilities, enabling the safe transmission of electricity from the Tanay wind farm through NGCP’s largest 500 kV transmission line to consumers across Luzon.
“We thank NGCP for its partnership and support throughout the project’s grid integration process. Through its transmission network, NGCP enables renewable energy projects like Tanay to deliver electricity to homes, businesses, and industries across the country,” said Gerry Magbanua.
Once fully operational, the Tanay Wind Power Project is expected to generate approximately 283.5 GWh of renewable electricity annually, enough to power around 118,125 households while avoiding approximately 197,780 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
Beyond supplying clean power, the project has created jobs and economic opportunities for host communities during development and construction. Alternergy continues to work closely with local government units, host community leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure that the project’s benefits are shared across the communities it serves.
The Tanay Wind Project is one of two assets recently backed by A Brown Company, Inc.’s P2.3 billion investment in Alternergy’s wind projects.
This milestone underscores Alternergy’s broader renewable energy expansion strategy as the company continues to advance its growing Triple Play portfolio of wind, solar, hydro, and battery storage projects across the Philippines. With testing and commissioning activities underway, Alternergy remains on track to bring the Tanay Wind Power Project into full commercial operations and further contribute to the country’s transition toward a cleaner, more secure, and sustainable energy future.
