Renewable power pioneer Alternergy Holdings Corporation (Alternergy), the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) led today’s bell ringing at the PSE trading floor for the Green Equity Label, the first sustainable labeling framework of its kind in Southeast Asia.

With the bell ringing, Alternergy is further recognized as the first publicly listed company and the first renewable energy developer to receive the Philippine Green Equity Label from the SEC.

Alternergy president Gerry P. Magbanua expressed appreciation to the SEC led by Commissioner McJill Bryant Fernandez, and to the PSE led by PSE president and CEO Ramon S. Monzon for a landmark initiative that is expected to expand the Philippine capital market, especially for sustainable investments.

“SEC’s leadership in creating the Green Equity Label framework is visionary. SEC has taken regulation beyond compliance. This certification creates the pathway for sustainable capital to flow where it is needed most, in particular, the growth of renewable energy development,” Mr. Magbanua said.

“The Green Equity Label opens real doors. It positions us to attract sustainability-focused investors when we return to the equity markets for future financing,” he said as he noted the status of Alternergy’s projects with four major projects totaling 225 MW for completion by the end of this year and the first half of 2026 and four additional projects of around 450 MW awarded under Green Energy Auction 4 (GEA 4).

Mr. Monzon encouraged other companies listed or preparing to list on the PSE to consider applying for Green Equity Label certification.

“For investors that use sustainability, specifically climate as an investment theme, seeing the Green Equity Label is an easy and efficient way to choose securities that meet their investment standards.  We hope this further raises the interest of other companies to be intentional in including green initiatives in their strategy, as well as in investing in green activities.” Mr. Monson said.

Mr. Magbanua echoed the call. “We hope other companies see what is possible and join us in this journey toward a sustainable capital market.”

Under SEC Memorandum Circular No. 13, series of 2025 issued last September, PSE-listed companies or those intending to list may apply for the Philippine Green Equity Label by meeting the requirements, including revenue, investments, fossil fuel limitation, and taxonomy alignment.

Based on external report by accounting firm SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co. (SGV), Alternergy more than met the said requirements as Alternergy’s revenues come from renewable energy sources and more than 90% of operating expenses and capital expenditures are channeled toward green activities. ALTER’s earlier adoption of the Green Finance Framework in 2024 for its debt financing further affirms its commitment to Sustainable Finance Taxonomy Guidelines (SFTG), one of the requirements of the Green Equity Label.

Alternergy was joined by representatives from MOSVELDTT Law as legal counsel and SGV as the independent review for the Green Equity Label certification, Investment and Capital Corporation of the Philippines as joint lead underwriter and Unicapital Inc. as co-lead underwriter during the IPO in 2023, BDO Unibank, East West Banking Corporation, Asian Development Bank, and International Finance Corporation (IFC) for the bell ringing ceremony.
