Alabat Wind Project installs first 8MW WTG, world’s largest to date outside of China
Using innovative technology featuring typhoon-resistant wind turbine design and segmented tower assembly
Demonstrates Alternergy’s commitment to a sustainable future amidst global oil crisis
Renewable power pioneer Alternergy Holdings Corporation (Alternergy) marks yet another “first” as its Alabat Wind Power Project installed its first 8MW wind turbine generator (WTG), the world’s largest commercial wind turbine generator (WTG) outside of China to date.
The WTG, supplied by Envision Energy, has a 182-meter rotor diameter, 105-meter hub height and 90-meter blade length. Its technological innovation features a typhoon-resistant wind turbine design and segmented tower installation, the first in the wind industry.
The completion of Alabat Wind Project’s first WTG successfully overcame daunting challenges from offshore logistics to inland transport to actual installation.
“This first WTG is truly a significant milestone. There were numerous challenges, from direct shipment using a specialized barge, to constructing a special jetty on an island, to handling oversized equipment, to securing hundreds of permits and multiple stakeholder engagements,” said Knud Hedeager, president of Alternergy Wind Holdings Corporation (AWHC), parent company of AWPC.
“This proves that with determination and right partnerships, we can push boundaries and bring renewable energy to the forefront, especially during this critical time of global uncertainty,” Mr. Hedeager said.
“This initial success with the Alabat Wind Power Project reinforces our vision for a future powered by renewables. We are just getting started, and this is a big step forward. In the coming weeks, we will complete the installation of seven (7) more WTGs,” Mr. Hedeager added.
The successful installation of the first turbine at the Alabat Wind Power Project marks an important milestone for Envision in the Philippines and across Southeast Asia,”said Chou De Loh, Country Manager, Philippines at Envision Energy. “Our teams worked closely with Alternergy and local partners to deliver the project safely and efficiently. We look forward to working with other partners to accelerate the Philippine’s energy transition and bring more innovative renewable energy solutions to the region.”
The Alabat Wind Project will have eight (8) WTGs atop the mountains of the island municipalities of Alabat and Quezon facing the Pacific Ocean with a total capacity of 64 MW. Once completed this year, the Alabat Wind Project will be one of the first wind projects to be completed under the Second Green Energy Auction of the Marcos Administration.
Alternergy is completing four (4) new power projects this year with a combined capacity of 225 MW. The first of the four projects, the Balsik Solar Power Plant located in Hermosa, Bataan, started commercial operation this February.
